A Home for the Holidays

Thanks to New Hope for Families, Robert and Sandra and their children have a home for the holidays this year.

Robert and Sandra and their two children, Kyle and Rob Jr.

Robert and Sandra and their 8-year-old son, Rob Jr, were referred to New Hope by another local shelter, because New Hope was the only agency in the area able to keep their family together.

Robert, permanently disabled due to a work-related injury, became a single dad to Rob Jr when his first wife died. He later met and married Sandra, who devoted herself to being the mom that Rob Jr had lost at such a tender age.

When the family arrived on New Hope’s doorstep, homeless after nearly a year of couch surfing, Sandra was eight months pregnant, and their only income was Rob Jr’s monthly survivor benefit check. New Hope provided the shelter they needed to remain together, and helped them welcome their new baby and get into an income-based unit.

Today, Rob Jr is thriving as an elementary school student, and Sandra and Robert dote on 1-year-old Kyle, in their first apartment with their own names on the lease.

With the support of our many friends in our community, New Hope for Families helped more than 30 families find their home for the holidays this year alone, families like Robert and Sandra and their children who are excited to spend their first Christmas together in a home of their own.
